I wouldn't waste your time in Denmark Street, it's all overpriced tat

And you gotta love it when eBay sellers name drop that place with regards to where they originally bought it. And most of the time it's probably a lie!

Hi Guys,
I think I am nearly back to normal with all this computer stuff. I'll have to get a more modern one soon anyway.

Yeah Billy..Try to get down the south of England and we'll have a drink.

GoldTone. I haven't been back to London for years now. I lived there for 37 years. It was a great place back in the 60's- 70's, but I just didn't recognize it last time I went and couldn't wait to get back to the country. I know the shops you mean..... I should imagine buying a guitar there would cost an arm and a leg these days... Sky high rents.

My eldest son is going to NY in June and is driving up to take a look round a few Canadian cities. (Toronto..Quebec etc ) I'm trying to see if he can come back with something nice (Ya know what I mean.. ;) ) ... :wha
Anyone know any good bargain places round that neck of the woods?
Last time I was in NY I wasn't that impressed with prices etc. Mind you, that was when the $ was stronger. I suppose things have changed.
I wasn't knocked out visiting Manny's. I was expecting some good buys to be had, but...No way....

Phil.

I went to New York last year phil and I searched the place from top to bottom and the only place worth visiting is 30th Street Guitars. Sorry that's wrong, its worth visiting them all, i.e. Rudy's, Manny's, Sam Ashes etc etc just for the experience, but the only place with any decent used gear is 30th Street.
They are still highly priced though. I came back with a cracking flying v but I could have picked one up for roughly the same price here in the UK.
But that's not the point, you can't go to NYC and not come back with a guitar. It just has to be done.

The best way to get round the customs issue is if you can prove it's been in your ownership for more than 6 months. The other good one (for shipping stuff over) is to get the package marked as a 'repair under warranty'.

Isn't it good to pay your taxes? I often hear how BS it is that all Americans don't have access to free health care. That _hit ain't free! ;) :salude

New York is pretty bad for prices too. Any of those cities that see alot of $$ or big name people who'll spend a little easier are it seems. I had some luck in Greenwich (sp?) village and down around 30th St (I think it was about there.....its been a few years).

In Canada its sort of Capsule Music or Songbird in Toronto. Montreal seems to have a lot more cool stuff though (sorry, can't rememember the names....dumn English speaking British Columbian I am :) ). But the T.O prices are close to double waht they are here in Vancouver. More selection in Toronto or Montreal though.

Alberta has a couple of shops on Whyte Ave. that get some nice things in and have a lot of nice old gear.

My fave is usually Capsule in T.O. They are willing to deal and get nice stuff.

Yep, absolutely ridiculous prices aimr75... it's easy to see why shops like Mark's turnover of highend guitars appears to be very good and then you see shops like this where the same guitars sit around for years, then you get you get those dealers who say "Gibson Les Paul's? not interested... can't sell the bloody things" I wonder why? ;)

Hey Gold tone,
the shop in Leeds is called "Music Ground" please do a search on the forum before parting with any money !!!!!!!
Denmark Street has a bunch of shops but honestly they are pretty pap. One shop called Angel, (no relation to the much talked about Duncan,) sells all kinds of not quite right vintage stuff,
Vintage and rare ask for your first born just to step inside, ...crazy prices and Andys well... This is the shop that made a pot and wiring change to a 335 by cutting a hole in the back and then covering it over with a plastic plate. I kid you not !
Take great care .........

No Phil don't think you'll like the prices here now. Rudy's has a nice R0' An 05' they got in a little wile ago. About $4 to $5 Grand with tax The rest of 48th Street is Sam Ash not a Gibson dealer any more... But money wise no deals here.:toobad
