THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
Preface, not a guitar person. Picked this up today, provenance is guys father played drums with skynard. We are in the area, so maybe checks out. Just trying to see what I have? Any information would be appreciated.
Ostensibly by serial and general look-over, it's a 1976 Custom made in Nashville, with the Nashville bridge and TP-6 tailpiece.
FWIW: I am not a Norlin-era expert, and if legit this would've been born during the transitional period with Kalamazoo and Nashville both in operation, so the details about knobs, bridge, etc. are best left for more thorough inspection... I've seen gold-top reflectors more than speed knobs, for instance, as well as harmonica bridges.
You'd need to post more and better pics for super-savvy Norlin-era folks to weigh in on any definitive identification, including front/back of headstock, cavity shots with pot codes, a closer look at the pickups including undersides, etc.
Never seen this finish, perhaps refinished... or a super smoky aged lacquer yellowing of a gold or cherry...? Also note the appearance of the binding, at least in this image, is this binding bleed or part of the potential smoky aging...? Pickup cavity shots as well as rear cavity shots would help indicate original finish.
FYI serial breakdown:
00 = 1976
whereas 99 = 1975, 06 = 1977]
124 = manufactured on the 124th day of 1976
625 = Nashville production
Prior Kalamazoo closure in '84, 001-499 indicated Kalamazoo and 500-999 were assigned to Nashville thru '89.
NOTE: wrong forum, this might get more traction in the Sunburst Pub.
