2001 Historic Inlays - Did yours turn grey? Pics? Solutions?

My R0 inlays were whiteish in 2001, but over time the white part turned grey, and the darker white or greyish swirls from 2001 are now BLACK. So from a distance, parts of the inlays look translucent. Part of what may have caused this is that I tried to fade the bright red cherry burst top, which never faded, but the inlays were affected.

I'm just wondering how bad others are from that year. :hmm

How much does it cost to get the '50's looking style inlays installed?

Just went & checked- the inlays on my '01 R8 still look the same. Might well be the fading attempt.

I'm having the inlays in my 01 R8 changed now - I'll post info and pics when the job is completed - hopefully by the beginning of this Summer.

Hey 55Custom, same thing happened to me. Had my '04 R9 refinished to a light teaburst and aged by RS. They did an amazing job. The color was a bit darker than I was expecting so Roy suggested I fade it. I have access to a free tanning bed so it spent many hours under the light. The result was one the most realistic burst colors I've seen on a RI ... BUT ... the inlays turned same as yours, crap grey, just plain ugly. They weren't perfect to start with but were much better before the fading.

So, I just spent some cash and picked up a great set from Buzzy and had them professionaly installed. Just got it back on Saturday and looks amazing.
