I don't know. That long divot/scrape goes pretty far down (toward the fretboard), so it would be impossible to make it run flush from nut to saddle area, and there's also barely any material left on the one nib to work with (the sloppiest one). The second guitar arrived today and after dinner I'll check it out. And Sweetwater also thought the binding was poorly done; that's why they sent another guitar on their dime (the shipping fee). Again, SW has been stellar.

Off topic, but if I had the extra money, this one would be headed my way! And I don't normally like gold hardware, but that binding and paint job! 😍 I never knew about this model.

Houston, we have a problem. This one is 9lbs (1/2 pound heavier) but plays and sounds better 😖. My camera doesn't do the color justice (on either guitar).

I wouldn’t let that binding bother me if you like the guitar. Nice top! Nice weight! If you like it I would get somebody local to fix it up the way you want. I don’t like shipping guitars back and forth and I like to talk to the people doing the work. As far as the sound and feel, once it is set up to your liking, it may start sounding better.

Which is probably why I do that kind of thing on my own guitars. Seriously, it’s kind of part of the set up. Nothing is going to show up at your door custom tailored for you. Unless, as mentioned, it’s a Collings or similar. I get that you think the damage is bad. It is quite a stretch to say that a modern Gibson Les Paul is hand made. Yes, some hands were laid on it, but machines did most of the work. $3000 is a lot of dough, but you would be looking at way more if an instrument was truly built by hand.

The last Gibson I bought was a “used” Les Paul I bought on Reverb. It looked great in the photo with a killer top and that is why I bought it. When I got it, it was unplayable. In fact, it had never been played, for good reason. The seller told me a few years later when I saw him at a guitar show that he bought a few guitars from the guy that had mine and that he had never played any of the guitars!

Anyway, the issue was somewhat minor, but aggravating nonetheless. One of the tailpiece studs was defective with some damage to the threads, such that it could not be screwed into the bushing. Like, only 1/4” in! But, take the positive: the frets were perfect, the neck was straight and there was no wear anywhere on the guitar. In my case, this guitar was going to be a hot rod anyway so none of this mattered to me personally. I spent the time to do a full set up and it was off to the races!

Cheers! (Edit, got threads and forums mixed up, so I deleted my French language comment!)

Thanks for your insight! I actually sent back the Fuchsia guitar and kept the Honey Amber. It growls! I do my own guitar work (minus bindings), and noticed that whoever set the guitar up had the pickups way too low. I now have them about 2/64 bridge, 3/64 neck and they sound amazing! It really is an awesome guitar.

And the 50s Fuchsia GLPS was going back even if it played better. When I took off the truss rod cover to tighten the truss rod, well, look at the picture and see for yourself. My rep said that since the damage was "hidden" under the cover, it was acceptable,.and they wouldn't do anything about it. I told him I did not agree that it is a non-issue and he responded to me, but never addressed that issue; just offered to have it sent back.

Anyway, I love this guitar! It's light, plays great, sounds great! It's a rock machine!
