Every year when we start the new garden, there's the parasites who try to ruin it. You can try the passive approach using natural methods to try to combat these pains in the ass, but it the end, using powerful weapons seem to be the only way to rid your garden from these insistent, inevitable garden pests.

Are there any other gardeners out there who deal with this sort of thing? How about sharing some tips!

My grandmother used to have a great garden in Iowa. Tomato plants, green beans, onions, etc... I'd help her with it when I was little. The bugs were a pain, but if you could get past them, the end result was well worth it. You had something great to eat and the satisfaction in knowing that you created it yourself.

It's much harder to create and grow something than it is to tear something down or do nothing at all for that matter....but in the end, it's worth it :)

I love to garden. :)

Over the years, I've tried many methods of gardening...:)

My preferred approach has always been the "natural" method of pulling the stray weed here and there. Let nature take its course. However, sometimes, when the weeds threaten to take over, I've had no choice but to use the more powerful weed killers to rid the garden of pests and parasites. Most of the time, this can be done just once, and then the healthy plants will suddenly blossom and flourish - then I can just start plucking out the nasty little buggers that reappear again one at a time. No problems. :)

OH Come on, lets start dancing around the bush here.. ;)

Garden pests need to be eradicated immediately.. Even those cute little lady bugs who appear to be all sweet and non-threatening, but in fact try to eat everything in sight..

I use a mixture of Diazinon, Malathion and herbal pesticides which totally strip the garden of it's pests and leave the veggies to grow nice and happy. With no after effect. It was like they were never there.

I still can't figure out why these pests keep coming to my garden, as there's a perfectly good dump across town full of the garbage and waste that these bugs just love!!

Misguided little pests, they are going to die now..

My dad and sister are way into organic gardening. I know that this year, my dad was having problems with worms getting on ears of corn early on, in their development.

He got a couple of whole cloves of elephant garlic, boiled them in water and put it in a spray bottle. He sprayed them right on the tip on the end of the ears, and man , he had the most perfect ears of corn i've ever seen..

Not a bug in site. Send me what your trying to grow, and i'll see what all they do to keep those little buggers off. And bugs in Arkansas are BAD....

Of course, if the above tips don't work, you can always resort to using a full on flame thrower..

Hey there, Spose.
It seems to me that the weeds tend to stand out like a sore thumb after a good initial pruning.

I had some terrible weeds that I tried for the longest time to get rid of. I even tried pulling them one at a time in an attempt to not mess with the rest of the yard. My friends in the "hood" even helped. Then one neighbor suggested"Roundup" weed control which gets rid of everything. After that I started over totally anew. It was so refreshing. The neighbors appreciated it because they didn't have to worry about them creeping into the hood anymore possibly annoying them in their yard.

Once in awhile one or two troublemakers try to show up. I just remove them one at a time and everything seems to stay fresh and pleasing.

for y'all farmers :)

Wildwood Weed
Jim Stafford

The name of this song is 'The Wildwood Flower'
Now 'The Wildwood Flower' is an old country classic
It gained a whole new popularity
The song isn't any more popular
But the flower is doin' real good

The wildwood flower grew wild on the farm
And we never knowed what it was called
Some said it was a flower and some said it was weed
I didn't gave it much thought...
One day I was out there talking to my brother
Reached down for a weed to chew on
Things got fuzzy and things got blurry
And then everything was gone
I Didn't know what happened
But I knew it beat the hell out of sniffin' burlap

I come to and my brother was there
And he said, 'What's wrong with your eyes?'
I said, 'I don't know, I was chewing on a weed'
He said, 'Let me give it a try'
We spent the rest of that day and most of that night
Trying to find my brother, Bill
Caught up with him 'bout six o'clock the next mornin'
Naked, swinging on the windmill
He said he flew up there
I had to fly up and get him down
He was about half crazy...

The very next day we picked a bunch of them weeds
And put 'em in the sun to dry
Then we mashed 'em up and we cleaned 'em all
And put 'em in the corncob pipe
Smokin' them wildwood flowers got to be a habit
We didn't see no harm
We thought it was kind of handy
Take a trip and never leave the farm

A big ol' puff on the wildwood weed
Next thing you know we's just wandering behind the little animals
All good things gotta come to an end
And it's the same with the wildwood weed

One day this feller from Washington come by
And he spied us and he turned white as a sheet
And he dug and he burned
And he burned and he dug
And he killed all our cute little weeds
Then he drove away
We just smiled and waved...
Sittin' there on that sack of seeds

Y'all come back now, ya hear?

Yeah. Max Yasgur once said "Weeds do their best to disrupt the crops. But, remember, they're only plants."

That's very cool. Just out of curiosity, how far's Lake Hill from Woodstock? For that matter, how far's Yasgur's farm fom Woodstock?

...if you give your garden a lot of love, and if you work very hard and have a lot of patience, in the proper season you will see it grow to be very beautiful...
