Thanks for the reply and help! My local guy said just to order a 498t he will solider it in, no need for QC. Said this is the best way, if I ever want to put the old bbpro back in, take a second and just connect it back…. So while I was at his music shop we did a little testing, here is what we came up with. This results are both of our thoughts, not just mine.

We used a black star combo amp that had high gain. We ran everything, including gain at noon. Clean Channel same thing.
Guitars used -
My 2024 lp studio burstbucker pro
Used 2022 lp tribute with 498t
New 2024 Les Paul studio session with 57+

The results -
Gain & high gain
498 had way more warmth and meat, seemed consistent in the mids & highs, a pickup that seemed to let the amp control tone more imo. 57+ sounded good, brighter than the 498 a little less low end. BBPRO was pretty bright, low end was not as strong as the other two.

Clean -
498 again, had meat, seemed nice and balanced. 57 acually was breaking up the clean channel, we were puzzled by this, the 498 is a hotter pickup. The 57 had some serious push in that new studio session, it was brighter than 498, it was like we pushed the gain up a little on the clean channel. BBpro very bright and thin, sounded like a single coil tele. This guy has been dealing in gibsons for 40 years, his partner Vic wrote some books for Gibson. Even he was shocked how bright and thin the bb pro was on the clean channel.

I don’t know much about that tribute except it had a satin finish, but that sounded very similar to my 95 studio with a 498t. I assume they all have 500k pots, the tribute was a 2022, mine is a 2024, the session just came in. No clue if the other zero were had wired or qc boards.

The only 498t he had in stock was nickle, not chrome. He told me to order one, as i said above he will just soldier it in. Looking online they are calling them 498t “hot alnico” 🤷🏻‍♂️, I just want the stock Gibson 498, new marketing thing? Are they all the same?

What do you think about the testing results we did?

Thanks!
