Anybody ask Gibson in Dallas if they were going to be selling these as an aftermarket item?

Gibson doesn't make caps themselves so it seems like getting hold of the supplier would make sense for an aftermarket outfit.

Are they really made the same way as the old ones, or do they just LOOK the same?

THe insides are the old foil , if that means anything to you. The outsides are probably not the same exact material, but that's just the packaging, which really has little if any effect on the tone. IT's what the current passes through that's important.
On a side note, I understand that the switch rings and jack plates are now being made of butyrate plastsic, like the old ones.

I'll have to e-mail Dave R. and see when this stuff might become available after-market.

Maybe it'll be available right after the lightweight tailpiece...

Yea, come to think of it...what happened to those alleged lightweight tailpieces? I heard rumblings in the past that this store or that store would be getting them but...nothing, nadda...

...Whats up with that?... Jim, it seems that your in the know...where can I get one of those babies?

Dewey, I asked Dave in the e-mail I sent him if he ever heard anymore on the tailpieces...

I'll let you know.

From what I'm told, they are trying to get the outsides exact, mold marks, stripes, the works. If I remember right, i heard bakalite. The price is f**king staggering, I can't believe what it's costing gibson to do this, I can't believe the upper brass even approved it, but they did. The audible difference was too great for even them to ignore, and they took notice.

RICH, I cant believe theyre doing it either. And is it my imagination or is the knob color better too? Stuff like the caps, knobs, the no wire ABR-1 bridge, butyrate and bakelite, etc. is what I was told would NEVER get done because its just too costly for Gibson to pursue. Im pleasantly shocked!
