Great series so far. It really must have been nasty for those young Marines.
When I asked my Papaw (Now deceased) what serving in the Pacific theatre was like, he said "boring".
Turns out he piloted a patrol boat around a prison Island. No action, Im sure my Dad appreciated that!
I appreciate what Spielberg and Hanks are doing to bring this stuff to public attention while we have the opportunity to appreciate the guys who are still with us. 'Wish my Dad were among them.
I know quite a bit about the European war, but am learning more about the Pacific action through this series.
I understand it's STILL that way in Australia, whose women have a fondness for American men...allegedly feeling they are treated better by them. I have happy memories of visits there when I was single (long ago, and I had not yet moved to the States), but I have a cousin in the US Navy who managed to shift his specialty to be based in Japan...so as to visit Australia with some frequency...he speaks highly of the ladies.
