Just looking for some in put from fellow enthusiast's....

Gibson did make a handful of these Old Black replica's specially for the
Yanamo Gibson importer. ( Japan )

It was not long before Neil found out and went ape s**t !!
Sponsored by No body, remember..

Has P90 and Fire Bird PU's. rolled finger board and heavier aging than the usual
aged Historic's.

Sorry Mod's.

No wonder the world is full of war's with attitudes like that..:dude:

Three things, read the rules, join/pay so you can post in the classifieds, third remove or edit your post of the selling part as so the thread won't be removed. Not being a dick, but please take my advice so you don't get on the bad side of the moderators and the members. :ganz

Just to put the general info out there, selling or even mentioning of selling is only allowed in the Forum Classifieds. It's not a matter of attitude, it's only fair to all here that pay for a full membership and the right to use the forum to sell. Otherwise considered spam and against forum rules. To advertise in the classifieds wil require a forum membership. Yours is a common mistake and understandable if not familiar with the Les Paul Forum. I'm not sure how much it costs but well worth it for the amount of exposure you get for the exact audience you want to target. The fees I'm sure help support costs of operating the Forum. You also get a 'Backstage Pass" which will access the part of the Forum you don't see. I'm in no way affiliated with those that operate the LPF but I think it's a good investment. There is an encyclopdia's worth of valuable technical informatiion here about Gibson guitars. More than you will find anywhere on the internet.

So hurry up and get some pics up before this thread gets zapped!

Gibson did indeed make some and I've seen them in Japan. They look cool! FWIW I'll be in Ochanamizu this weekend, can't wait!

I'm chasing a 55 Gold Top with Bigsby or the Murphy would not be going..

There are a few "old black" owners here and several threads here with pics of "old black" replicas if you spend a little time searching. From what I understood they were not Murphy's or Gibson Custom Shop but done in Japan. I can't say i know that for sure. I've just never heard anything about a Gibson issue "old black". I'm sure it's possible. Just curious... do you have a certificate of authenticity?

Hi J45,

Yes I have a C.O.A Signed by Tom Murphy.
I also contacted Gibson the confirm..

I previously also owned a Neil Young Custom Art Authentic with C.O.A
After the Ser. No. on the case was NY.

Both these guitar's are extremely rare, I sold the CA to a guy in the States and he also contacted the Gibson Custom shop and after much digging got to find out less than 10 could have been made before Neil pulled the plug.

I'd love to be able to contact Tom and find out more, I personally have a hard time dealing with fake aging but I still bought it. I have been into Neil for 20 year's. Both guitar's sound awesome this one has the fret's dressed lower and lot's of checking.

Hope this helps. I can mail pic's to you personally if interested but not sure how to post on the forum.

There are dozens of threads here about Old Black here. Here's the first four I turned up that mention something about a RI. Seems they were another Yamano venture made for distribution in Japan. Unfortunately, some of the pics are no longer hosted:
