What values would you recommend for these?
Like many I find the neck overly muddy and bridge too harsh and bright

I should also add some more info. Treble bleed is used to retain high's as you turn your volume pot down. Not really going to fix the things you don't like about your setup.

Yeah I know. I meant more than I don't want to muddy things up even more when lowering volume knob.

I have a bunch of different caps and resistors to try so wonder what values people have been happy with

Are they easy to open without risk of breaking them?

You can break anything.
But I did it without knowing anything.

I also did it recently with some Seymour Duncan Black Winter high output pickups.
I also bought some Paf clones for the Les Paul but the modded BW sounds really nice and I am having trouble changing them.

I recommend it.

I'm currently using 0.001uf and 100k resistor.
I guess going up to 2nf would retain more treble?
Best way to play around with electronics is to use a couple alligator clips. You can quickly and easily change the values of caps and resistors and listen for the best result.

Nope, the high output have extra magnets,
*SOME* do, but it is not the norm. The 490R and 498T are single-magnet pickups, and I've disassembled both within the last year for mag swaps.

In your experience, were they easy to open and do the swap?

I do not know every single pickup.
The first ones I modded was pickups from a 2001 Les Paul Classic.
Those had the extra magnets.

Also my Black Winters had the extra pickups.

Did you buy your LP Classic new? Never seen one with extra humbucker magnets from any year. Did it have changed pickups?

The 500T was stock in the LP Classic, I believe. It is one of the *very few* humbucker pickups that Gibson makes with more than one magnet (I believe it has three total). I think it is paired with the 496R in the classic, but I do not have experience with that one - I'd be really surprised if it had a triple magnet structure?

There is nothing particularly difficult about magnet swaps, but if you are a bit ham-fisted you can easily mess things up (and I did). I was ambitious and did some coil-swaps to make hybrids (similar to the Duncan Hybrid), but using Gibson coils) and actually set one up with a triple A8 mag format, so this thread pulled on my recent direct experience.
