I'm just amazed at Clapton's ability to completely change his appearance. Did he have a day job as a secret agent or something?

I think one of Clapton's core superpowers -- besides his playing -- is his hair including facial hair grows quite quickly and plentifully. [At least compared to mine, even in my heyday]. So he's able to switch things up and also change fashion accordingly within a short span of time. Ugh, although the perm period of Cream did him no favors, if you ask me... :ROFLMAO:

When Cream got going his hair was mostly always permed, yes the frizzy look in '67 was a shocker. Both Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell did the same, woeful stuff.

I sense this may have been inflicted on him by his missus. Doesn't look happy, tbh...

IF SO: Thankfully, she wasn't able to get away with it when Charlotte moved on to Page.

Really, I think she was just being kind and tending to 'fro maintenance, in the throes of woman tone.

Seriously. he stated Dylan first started the perms, also they copied Hendrix.

Ah Beano! The mystery guitar. Could it be that Beano went to that Great Guitar Shop in the sky? The person that nicked it may have decided, for whatever reason, to destroy the evidence of the theft. It's been roughly sixty years since it went missing but who knows what the future holds, but one thing not to hold is your breath.

No doubt someone influential has it. Could that person have threatened Clapton at any point and told him to not pursue the matter? I think we will hear more of this in the future, just hope it's within my lifetime.

You know, the Beano album was recorded in 1966. It is not exactly Hi-Fi. Its hard to say if the guitar was even a good one by listening to the record. I like Clapton's take on Freddie King, and there's a lot of magic on that record, but that guitar might actually be "average." Not that it matters since this is really about collectors and thieves. Much ado about nothing.

Umm, you can't tell how good that tone is by listening to the record??
Based on my ears, Beano is one of the best recorded LP tones ever imho. The album might not be Hi-Fi, but it's also not compressed and processed beyond all recognition like some of the more modern recordings. That tone is pure. Anything but average.

Makes you wonder --

If Clapton were sufficiently motivated then grabbed a new choice R9/R0 and Marshall Hand-wired 1962, got together with Mayall, McVie, and Flint, all were well-practiced on the material, then trucked into the West Hampstead ex-Decca studios [which is now a rehearsal space for the English National Opera] and suitably recorded...

How close would it come, tonally?

I'd wager close enough.

Well we can safely say that the bluesbreaker combo was definitely a 2x12. I know in the past there was some head scratching about that. Or I am just imagining things and made that up.
The one pictured here may or may not be the beano amp. I thought it was the other cab style?

Historical pics(eg the back cover pic on the beano album) tell us that it is the 2x12 1962 specifically made by Jim and the crew for EC in late '65.

There's so much more to the recorded Beano tone than the guitar. Sure it's part of it but hand Clapton any humbuckered Les Paul in good working order that day and you'd still have it.
