Ah Beano! The mystery guitar. Could it be that Beano went to that Great Guitar Shop in the sky? The person that nicked it may have decided, for whatever reason, to destroy the evidence of the theft. It's been roughly sixty years since it went missing but who knows what the future holds, but one thing not to hold is your breath.
This is what I think happened. The person who stole it may have had no ideas whose it was. It likely got cannibalized or outright thrown away.

Has anyone bothered to ask John Mcvie or Mayal about the Beano Burst. They were there.

I hope it oneday winds up back with Clapton. Seems in the last so many years these lost guitars are finding their ways homes. Page got back his Custom.

I have stated in other Beano related threads, I believe DZ has beano, he knows without a doubt it is beano,(i believe) Other people people on this forum know it to be beano and have perhaps even seen some proof. NO ONE WILL COMMENT ON THIS UNTIL CLAPTON DIES. obviously i dont know EC personally but being a very big fan nd reading, watching, listening to everything I can on the man, id venture a guess that if DZ told the world he had beano EC would come out and just ask for it back and claim rightful ownership, I would guess thats the kinda person EC is, and DZ already went thru that with Ed King, who while famous is no where close to pulling the kinda weight Eric would in an attempt to reclaim his guitar and as most of us know ED did get redeye back from DZ.

all that said I think shortly after EC passes Beano will magically come to light and hopefully be displayed and shown to us all.

If EC passed and DZ subsequently unveiled a guitar claiming it was 'the Beano' the EC estate could pursue reclaiming ownership. Methinks nothing will change when EC passes, unless the EC estate forsakes any claim, in some negotiated deal.

If DZ does in fact have Beano, I almost guarantee EC knows about it. There's a good chance he just doesn't care as much as some of us think he does.
I didnt mean to imply he would want it back for some kind of sentimental reason, i think Eric would see it as a golden goose to auction for his charity or something.

Depends on whether EC got an insurance payout for the stolen guitar and what the laws are regarding the purchase of stolen good. In some places if someone purchases a guitar believing they are buying from the rightful owner then they legally own it. Someone might have thought they were buying a really nice Les Paul. If sold soon after it was stolen that is a possibility.

Insurance? Not likely the case in September 1966, having left one band and rehearsing with a new one that didn't have income yet.

Did EC have a personal manager from the time in the Yardbyrds? If so maybe he would’ve had personal business insurance on his equipment etc, this could’ve also been applied via his household insurance? I know he wasn’t short of a bob or two at the time as he was rolling around in a Mercedes 600 limo.. (on Learner Driver plates lol)

I believe that is post-Cream/Blind Faith, with Alice Ormsby-Gore.

He was rolling in it by then...

In hindsight ECs hair is longer etc.. so this must be early 70s
More '68/69.
Around '70/71 I'd buy Sound City strings that had a photo of EC on the front, his hair was very much as per the pic(maybe a tad shorter even) and the same clothes.

Cheers Marc, the memories flooded back (y)
On the string packet there was a front on pic of him, hair slightly shorter, sort of a page boy look that wasn't too becoming.
I'd just bought my first gibby at the time('70), a '69 SG Special and tried the 8-38 gauge..........ooh err what a disaster 🤣
